Series highlights: Golden Knights eliminate Oilers (and the Cup won’t be coming home to Canada)
There was only one field hockey game last night, and unfortunately it was at 10pm Eastern time, when the Vegas Golden Knights had the chance to eliminate the Edmonton Oilers in game six of the series.

Here’s what happened in that game.

1. Golden Knights send Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on vacation

Visiting Edmonton for Game 6 of their second-round series, the Golden Knights had the chance to eliminate the Oilers and avoid a final game in Vegas.

Well, that’s exactly what the Golden Knights did.

The game got off to a blistering start, with both teams exchanging goals in less than a minute.

Seconds later, the Oilers added another through Warren Foegele to go into the locker room ahead 2-1 after one period.

Unfortunately, it was in the second period that it all came crashing down for the Oilers, as Jonathan Marchessault took matters into his own hands, scoring three unanswered goals.

Marchessault has become Edmonton’s number-one enemy.

A 4-2 lead after two periods would be enough for the Golden Knights, who added a fifth goal in an empty net courtesy of William Karlsson.

Vegas can thank goaltender Adin Hill, who was excellent throughout the game, turning aside 38 of the 40 shots he faced.

Hill replaced Laurent Brossoit, who was injured earlier in the series.

In short, the Golden Knights advance to the Western Conference Finals, and now await their opponent, who will be determined by the winner of tonight’s Game 7 between the Dallas Stars and the Seattle Kraken.

Imagine if the Kraken won, we’d have a conference final series between the two most recent expansion teams.

As for the Edmonton Oilers, well, they’ve unfortunately been eliminated and are now on vacation.

The two leading scorers in the series, Connor McDavid (20 points) and Leon Draisaitl (18 points), will now be playing golf.

There are officially no Canadian playoff teams left.

It’s been 30 years since any Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup, and it’s been 30 years since Gary Bettman was commissioner of the NHL.

I’ll let you choose between pure chance and conspiracy.

Three of the five teams still alive have never won the Stanley Cup.

We’re talking here, of course, about the Florida Panthers, the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really have a team left to root for right now, with the Oilers out of the picture.

So I’ll be following the rest of the series with a little less enthusiasm.
