Rumor: Kyle Dubas is waiting for Ottawa
Toronto has been in turmoil ever since the Maple Leafs were eliminated in the first-second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The loss in five short games to the Florida Panthers clearly hasn’t been digested by Toronto fans, but also by president Brendan Shanahan, who incidentally controlled a lot more than we thought.

So it was clear that a major housecleaning could occur at any time in Toronto, and that’s what happened earlier this week, as we learned that Kyle Dubas was no longer the Maple Leafs’ general manager.

This is just the beginning of a major shake-up, but it’s still a big deal considering Dubas had been there for just over five years.

Dubas, whose contract with the Leafs expired on June 30, is now free as a bird.

Rumours were rife on social networks, and the one that came up most often was the one linking him to the position of GM with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

However, according to Sportsnet reporter Luke Fox, the rumors of Dubas being sent to Pittsburgh are simply a smokescreen.

In fact, according to Fox’s report, he has heard from one of his sources that Kyle Dubas is waiting for Ottawa.

That’s what Fox reports in one of his recent articles, and let’s just say it’s a bombshell if it’s indeed true.

We do know, however, that Dubas has stated that if he doesn’t return to Toronto, he’d like to take some time for his family and therefore take a break from field hockey.

On the other hand, we also know that Dubas has been a fan of the Ottawa Senators since he was very young.

You’re probably thinking that this is impossible, as the position of general manager is already held by Pierre Dorion.

But who’s to say this is the position Dubas is waiting for?

All Fox states in his article is that his source explained to him that Dubas is waiting for Ottawa.

Perhaps after the Senators are sold, and a new owner or owners arrive, Dubas will be hired to run the club.

Or perhaps the new owner(s) will prefer to start afresh by firing Pierre Dorion and bringing in Kyle Dubas as general manager.

In short, this is more than interesting news in the Dubas dossier, and will be one to watch very closely this summer.
