Brandon Aiyuk seems to want to move on from his time with the San Francisco 49ers.

The star wide receiver has just made an important decision regarding his professional future by entrusting the management of his interests to Drew Rosenhaus, a well-known agent in the NFL.

The news was reported Monday by Adam Schefter of ESPN. Aiyuk's new agent is particularly focused on finding a way to get his client back on the field and continue his career in professional football.

“He's working to get him back to work and have him play in the NFL again,” Rosenhaus told Schefter.

The 28-year-old wide receiver has not played in a game since October 20, 2024, when he suffered a serious injury to his right knee against the Kansas City Chiefs. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament, his medial collateral ligament, and his meniscus.

Since that incident, relations between the player and the California-based organization have deteriorated significantly.

The situation worsened notably when San Francisco voided approximately $27 million in guaranteed money from his contract in July 2025. The team accused him of failing to meet certain obligations related to his rehabilitation and medical follow-ups.

Aiyuk subsequently stopped reporting to the team's facilities. The 49ers ultimately placed him on the non-reporting list.

A departure from the 49ers seems inevitable for Brandon Aiyuk

To officially return to the NFL, the wide receiver will first have to apply to the league for reinstatement. San Francisco will then have to decide how to proceed with his contractual rights.

A trade had already been considered but did not materialize. However, a release could become a serious possibility if the player is reinstated to the league.

Coach Kyle Shanahan and General Manager John Lynch have, in fact, hinted on several occasions that Aiyuk's time in San Francisco is over. Even when the team was struggling at the wide receiver position, Shanahan had ruled out the idea of a reconciliation.

Washington had also been mentioned as a potential destination. In particular, Aiyuk was hoping to reunite with Jayden Daniels, with whom he had developed a friendship at Arizona State University.

However, the Commanders have since added Stefon Diggs to their receiving corps.

Before his injury, Aiyuk was one of the 49ers' top offensive players. In 2023, he racked up 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, in addition to being named to the All-Pro Second Team.

His next chapter in the NFL therefore remains to be seen.
