A Cardinals executive is challenging his suspension for violating the NFL’s gambling policy

The indefinite suspension of Ryan Gold, the Arizona Cardinals' director of college recruiting, continues to be a hot topic in the NFL.

A few days after the suspension was announced, his attorney stated that the allegations against his client are completely unfounded and confirmed that an appeal has already been filed.

The NFL maintains that its investigation concluded that Gold allegedly leaked confidential information regarding the Cardinals' picks in the 2026 draft prior to their official announcement. The league also accuses him of participating in parlay bets involving NFL and college football games, in violation of its strict gambling policy.

However, attorney Mike Caspino refutes all of these allegations. According to him, the betting activities mentioned in the case file involved only Ryan Gold's wife, who participated in a friendly pool with former schoolmates by wagering small amounts each week. He asserts that his client never took part in these bets.

The defense also challenges the charge related to the draft. According to Caspino, Ryan Gold was unaware of the team's final draft picks prior to their announcement, as that decision rested solely with owner Michael Bidwill and general manager Monti Ossenfort.

The NFL Stands by Its Position Despite the Challenges

For its part, the NFL states that its investigation was conducted thoroughly, notably through interviews with those involved as well as the analysis of communications and electronic records. The league specifies that no other members of the Cardinals—whether executives, coaches, or players—are implicated in this case.

The NFL also adds that there is no evidence to suggest that any games or sports results were influenced by the actions attributed to Ryan Gold.

The Cardinals organization stated that it fully respects the league's decision and that it cooperated at every stage of the investigation.

Ryan Gold, who has been with the franchise for 13 seasons, had served as director of college scouting since 2025. His appeal could now determine whether this suspension will be upheld or overturned, as the NFL continues to uphold a zero-tolerance policy regarding sports betting and the protection of confidential information.
