While the hostile offer made by the Anaheim Ducks to Leo Carlsson has reignited discussions about this rarely used strategy in the NHL, one thing seems clear in Connor Bedard's case: the young forward never intended to go down that path.

According to his agent, Don Meehan, the Chicago Blackhawks' star player had already made up his mind well before the Carlsson situation came to light.

“Connor made it clear, even after the hostile offer and before the hostile offer, that he had no intention of signing a hostile offer,” explained Meehan, a statement reported by Mark Lazerus of The Athletic.

This clarification is important as many fans and observers were wondering whether the arrival of a new wave of young star players could make offer sheets more common in the NHL.

With players like Bedard and Carlsson, some saw an opportunity for rival teams like the Canadiens to take a shot at them.

But in the case of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 draft, that possibility never seemed to have been seriously considered.

Since his arrival in Chicago, Bedard has been considered the cornerstone of the Blackhawks' rebuild.

The organization has clearly built its future around him, and the young center also seems to believe in the plan put in place by Kyle Davidson.

Signing a hostile offer would have forced the Blackhawks to make a difficult decision, in addition to creating some tension between the player and the team that selected him with the first overall pick.

However, according to his agent, Bedard wanted to avoid that scenario entirely.

The Carlsson case may have changed certain perceptions surrounding NHL negotiations, but it does not reflect the Bedard camp's approach.

For Connor Bedard, the message is clear: his future lies in Chicago, and he never intended to use a hostile offer as a bargaining chip.
