In March 2025, it was announced that Rogers had agreed with the NHL on the terms of a new 12-year contract for television rights in Canada. The contract in question will begin in time for the 26-27 season.

The total value of the deal is estimated at CA$11 billion, or US$7.7 billion… which is a lot of money.

But at the time, one question in particular kept coming up: what exactly does this mean for French-language television rights in Canada?

In fact, we knew that 45 of the 84 habs games for the 26-27 season would be broadcast in French on RDS. But for the rest, it was rather vague.

And now we seem to have an answer to all that: according to Jeremy Filosa, TVA Sports will (also) remain a National Hockey League broadcaster. That means TVA Sports and RDS would share the habs games, as is currently the case.

It's also worth noting that there is a rumor that 15 habs games will be broadcast exclusively on Crave starting next season.

This is big news. It hasn't been confirmed yet— Jeremy Filosa explains in his tweet that an announcement should be made in March —but Filo is a well-connected guy and he wouldn't have shared this on X without being sure of his source.

Keep in mind that Sportsnet will retain the rights to NHL games. That said, one wonders how many games will be shown on TVA Sports… because the price for the new rights is twice as high for the new agreement with the league, and we know that the channel has been experiencing financial difficulties for several years now.

But we must also remember Amazon's potential presence in the picture. It will be interesting to see how everything will be distributed…

Currently, RDS and TVA Sports have shared regional broadcast rights since the start of the 2014-2015 season. Sixty games are shown on RDS, and national broadcast rights (22 games) are distributed to TVA Sports for Canadiens games.

It remains to be seen whether this will continue to be the case.
