In 2022, many expected the Habs to draft Shane Wright first overall. But in the end, Juraj Slafkovský was the Habs' choice… and Wright was selected by the Kraken at No. 4.

And we know: it didn't work out for him.

That said, time is proving the Canadiens right. While Slaf is playing the best hockey of his career, Wright is struggling in Seattle, with just seven goals and 17 points in 48 games this season.

And according to David Pagnotta, Wright's future in Seattle isn't secure: the tipster reports that the Kraken are considering a trade for the 22-year-old forward.

The club wants a top-6 forward, and is considering using Wright to get one.

In an ideal world, the Kraken wouldn't have to trade Wright for a top-6 forward because he'd be a top-6 forward himself. And in fact, his 19 goals and 44 points in 79 games last year suggested he was well on his way to becoming one.

But development, as we know, is not linear. And in his second full year in the NHL, Wright is discovering that too.

It's a safe bet that a team would be willing to take a chance on Wright, who has shown great promise and potential. You'd think the Kraken wouldn't trade him for a pittance… but it's interesting to see that the club is already thinking of trading him.

Maybe he could be the Habs' second center of the future, hehe.
