This summer, Rasmus Dahlin took advantage of his vacation to visit France with his fiancée, but his trip almost turned into a nightmare too. His fiancée, Carolina, became ill during the trip, and subsequently suffered severe heart failure. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was given several times to keep her alive… and after several weeks in hospital, she had to have a heart transplant. What a story…

The good news in all this? Today, the defenseman's fiancée is doing better. In a lengthy message published by the Sabres, Dahlin says she's continuing her rehab and will join him in Buffalo when she's ready to do so.

She has shown incredible determination, courage, positive attitude and tenacity that impresses me. It was undoubtedly the most difficult chapter of our lives, but we learned a lot from it.

Rasmus Dahlin

Wow.

Honestly, it almost made for a horror story. These things are serious and it shows one thing: no one is immune to a health problem in life. It can happen at any time, and it can go off the rails pretty quickly too. That's why, in the message in question, Dahlin wants to remind us that it's important to live life to the full. He wanted to thank the medical staff involved in the story, the NHL and the Sabres organization for all the support he's received in recent months… and he also reminded us that at times like these, sport isn't important. So much the better, that said, if his fiancée is doing well today.

– I like it.

– This is going to be good.
