Samuel Montembeault will be the Canadiens’ goalie tonight

This morning, the Canadiens practiced for tonight’s game. Not many of the lads got out on the ice to stretch their legs.

In fact, only six forwards, including the captain, five defensemen and the three goaltenders (obviously) skated.

We suspect that all 12 healthy forwards will play (unless we go with seven defensemen, of course) since the Habs don’t have any extras. There’s no indication that any forwards have been recalled either.

Defensively, why change the formula? Jayden Struble doesn’t deserve to skip his turn…

So it was in front of the net that we kept an eye on what was going to happen. Even if, in reality, we had every reason to believe that Samuel Montembeault was the man for the job.

And in fact…

Remember that the Canadiens’ goaltender saw Cayden Primeau and Jake Allen play over the weekend. Both did well against the Sabres on the road and the Predators at home.

But the Habs’ best goaltender this year is the Quebecer. The rotation implemented weeks ago called for him to take his turn.

It’s worth noting that the Habs made an exception in the rotation by playing Monty twice in a row. But other than that, it’s been pretty rigid for a few weeks now.

For better… and for worse.

With only one game this week (I’m talking about weekdays here, not weekends) before Saturday’s game, I don’t know if Martin St-Louis will give Montembeault the next start again.

But that’s putting the cart before the horse, I know.
