Eight of the ten teams Jake Allen has played are in the playoffs

Jake Allen’s 2023-2024 season got off to a great start. He won three of his first four starts, but then things started to go wrong.

In November, he had no wins. December began as the previous month ended: with a loss.

If Allen had any value at the start of the season, I don’t think that’s the case anymore.

In 10 starts this season, the netminder boasts an efficiency percentage of .898 and a goals-against average of 3.74.

But as Simon-Olivier Lorange found out, Allen hasn’t had it easy. He’s sent into the fray against the best teams on the Bettman circuit.

Lorange points out that eight of the ten teams the 34 has faced are in the playoffs as of today. And one of the two teams not in the playoffs is the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In fact, he was pulled from this game, allowing four goals on nine shots in the first period. I’m not making excuses for him, but he didn’t get any gifts from Martin St-Louis.

Cayden Primeau didn’t have it easy either. He often has the second game in two nights, and three of his five opponents are among the nine best teams in the Bettman circuit. In the text above, you can see a table that says it all.

This chart shows the point-per-game ratio of each goaltender’s opponents.

We can see that Samuel Montembeault has it a little easier. He’s got good stats, but maybe that’s also because he’s playing weaker teams… I’m just saying.
