Renaud Lavoie: Perhaps Joshua Roy’s lack of maturity cost him a recall

Mitchell Stephens has been recalled from the Laval Rocket… and not everyone is happy about it.

Jean-Charles Lajoie made it clear when he asked on his show what they don’t like about Joshua Roy with the Montreal Canadiens. JiC says it would have been special to see Roy in the Habs lineup Saturday (tomorrow) night at the Bell Centre…

But even if the Quebecer has been productive since the start of the season, he still has some crusts to eat because his performances have been inconsistent. He was criticized for this in junior, and it’s still the case today.

Renaud Lavoie, who happened to be on JiC’s show, confided that Roy must learn to become a pro before anything else:

In life, there’s maturity on the ice and maturity off the ice. You have to have both. – Renaud Lavoie

That’s a really interesting comment.

When he played in the QMJHL, Joshua Roy’s work ethic left a lot to be desired.

That’s one of the reasons why the Saint John Sea Dogs traded him to the Sherbrooke Phoenix.

Joshua Roy is young (20 years old), and sometimes it takes time for young players to understand the importance of giving their all every game. Some do (like Brendan Gallagher, for instance) and some don’t…

That said, hard work can be learned. It’s not as if you have to teach him to be good offensively or defensively because he already has the necessary qualities.

It’s nothing to worry about at the moment. This is Roy’s first professional season, after all…

But he’ll have to learn to put in the necessary effort if he ever wants to dominate the National League.

It’s not going to happen by itself.

In gusto

– Well said.

– Good question.

– A goal for Lane Hutson.
