Sean Monahan’s return to Montreal: the two sides have reportedly held talks

Sean Monahan is one CH player we haven’t heard much about in recent weeks. After a season of just 25 games in the metropolis, Monahan will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Will he attract the interest of a few teams despite his most recent injuries? Will Kent Hughes be interested in offering him a one-season contract?

According to Chris Johnston, it’s not impossible that the forward will return to Montreal. In fact, the two sides are reportedly in talks about a contract extension.

In my opinion, Monahan is an intriguing case. Firstly, he’s an undisputed leader in the dressing room and on the ice, and when he went down fighting against the Vancouver Canucks at the end of the year, the team’s problems were felt immediately. And when I say immediately, I mean right after his injury.

In addition to his leadership, the center allows Nick Suzuki to have less pressure on his shoulders, and he’s also capable of producing offensively. In 25 games, he has collected 17 points. Not bad.

Kent Hughes could therefore offer him a one-year contract to give him another chance. The 28-year-old could even sign a special contract.

If he has a good season and proves that the injuries are well and truly behind him, Kent Hughes will have several options. First, he could offer him a bigger contract in terms of longevity, or trade him at the next trade deadline. Some teams interested in the player at the last trade deadline…
