Olympic Games: Milan Arena’s (small) jumbotron makes people laugh

Olympic Games: Milan Arena’s (small) jumbotron makes people laugh

Construction not yet complete..

Big hole in the ice during the first “test”match ..

Changing rooms still on gypsum three weeks before the start of the competition…

Neutral zone three or four feet shorter..

Possibility of having to start the tournament without fully operable food concessions…

Let's just say that the arena currently being built in Milan is the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons.

Yesterday, I saw a photo of the first game held in the amphitheater and one thing jumped out at me: the jumbotron in the old Forum was probably bigger than the one in the new Italian arena in which the Olympic Games Peewee tournament will be held. See for yourself:

It looks like a full-size iPad, that's it!

No, it's not just the angle from which the above photo was taken that's misleading here. Even from behind the net, the screen looks this tiny. And it's far too high up; the people present are going to have stiff necks if they want to watch what's playing on the giant screen above them.

We'll have to think about removing the “jumbo” from the word “jumbotron.” Although “tron” or “minitron” just don't sound right.

At this point, the Italian decision-makers could have bought 4 85-inch TVs at Costco, then turned them into some kind of cube/square. It would have done the same thing.

If you have a few minutes to spare, be sure to check out the comments on social networks; they're hilarious.

“4 rooms in the Olympic Village will apparently have no TV!”

“They had six years to prepare and this is what they managed to do!”

“At least there's ice.”
