Corey Perry: the Oilers are the favourites to sign him

Now that we know there’s nothing to stop Corey Perry from returning to the NHL, and that some teams are interested in him, we’re pretty sure a return (before the playoff deadline) is imminent.

Does this mean he’ll definitely sign a contract? Not necessarily, no. After all, given his history, it’s certain that an exhaustive investigation will take place before signing him.

And sometimes, when you dig, you… find.

But in the NHL, we have a good idea of why the Blackhawks terminated the forward’s contract. And if there’s demand despite everything, then logically, his chances of signing somewhere are good.

We’ll have to wait and see.

The Maple Leafs have already been mentioned, but it would appear that another Canadian team currently has the best chance of signing him.

At the moment, there’s a lot of talk about the Edmonton Oilers, as reported by RDS.

Perry, who said he was working on his alcohol problems when his time in Chicago came to an end, would be a teammate of Evander Kane if he were to land in Alberta.

Remember that it was also the Oilers who took a chance on Evander Kane back in the day. And now, according to a number of informants (including Frank Seravalli and Chris Johnston), the Oilers could take him up on their offer.

Even if the Oilers don’t have a bad offense, Perry at this price (I expect, if he signs, it will be minimum wage) is still a good bet.

The Oilers, after a horrible start to the season, are currently in the playoff picture.
