Brendan Gallagher practiced on the first trio today, but…
The Canadiens are currently in Anaheim as part of their annual trip to California.

Martin St-Louis’ men take on the Ducks tomorrow night. Game time is 10 p.m.

The Flanelle head coach chose to lead a practice today, and from the outset, we saw that St-Louis once again wanted to emphasize one-on-one battles.

The Canadiens have lost their last four games and the coach has decided to stir the pot a bit.

Up front, Brendan Gallagher can be seen practicing on the club’s first unit, alongside Alex Newhook and Nick Suzuki.

Cole Caufield found himself on the second line with Juraj Slafkovsky and Christian Dvorak, while Josh Anderson practiced on the team’s third trio with Sean Monahan and Tanner Pearson.

Michael Pezzetta, Jake Evans and Jesse Ylonën completed the offensive line-up.

Earlier this afternoon, the Habs announced that Jordan Harris would be returning to Montreal for testing and that Rafaël Harvey-Pinard would miss six to eight weeks.

The club also announced that it would be recalling a player, but it’s unclear whether it will be a forward or a defenseman. Offensive and defensive combinations are therefore to be taken with a grain of salt for the time being.

If that remains intact, however, it will be interesting to see whether Brendan Gallagher will be able to keep pace on the first line. He’s most effective when he plays less, so I’m curious to see how he’ll be used if he’s indeed employed on the team’s first line tomorrow night.

It remains to be seen.
