Field hockey Canada scandal: five heavy suspensions to be handed down shortly

Team Canada’s 2018 edition of the World Junior Championship is forever tarnished by the sex scandal we’ve heard so much about in recent years.

We know that an investigation has been launched into the matter to shed light on what happened. We also know that the investigation is progressing well… to the point where, a few weeks ago, we learned that the results of the investigation would be unveiled shortly.

Inevitably, this means that suspensions are on the cards.

According to what journalist Andy Strickland reports on his podcast, heavy suspensions are imminent. Five players are targeted and their identities will be announced shortly.

The journalist claims to know the identity of the players in question, but that he is not going to name them. But according to him, there are some big names in the field hockey world.

This could change the course of things in the NHL. And if the guys are guilty, I have no problem with that.

When the news broke a few weeks ago, we looked to see which players in that edition didn’t have a deal with an NHL club.

Here’s what it looked like at the beginning of July.

  • Maxime Comtois – no contract
  • Cal Foote – no contract
  • Jonah Gadjovich – LAH contract only
  • Alex Formenton – not in the NHL for a year

Because, yes, it’s to be expected that teams have been aware of this for some time now and that, as far as possible, decisions have been made accordingly for lineup construction.

Let’s see how the matter is handled and what names emerge. We’ve been waiting a long time for this.
