Prices for PLD in Los Angeles: Here’s what the equivalent would be in Montreal
At present, the chances of Pierre-Luc Dubois landing in Montreal seem slim.

After all, the Kings are very, very aggressive in the matter and are doing everything in their power to acquire the center. They have what it takes to dance with the Jets, by the way, if the latter are looking to add established NHL players to avoid a rebuild.

David Pagnotta tweeted this morning that the Kings were very close to the finish line in this matter and that, if a deal were to go through, Gabe Villardi and Alex Iaffalo would be included in the exchange.

We’re talking about two important players in Los Angeles. On the other hand, one wonders what the equivalent would be in Montreal, if Kent Hughes had come to an agreement with Rob Blake…

At 23 years of age, Villardi just broke through with 41 points (23 goals) in 63 games last season in Los Angeles. Drafted 11th overall in the 2017 draft, he describes himself as a player with great offensive skills.

He is out of contract for next season and will be a restricted free agent this summer.

The comparable player in Montreal is Kirby Dach. We’re talking about two big forwards of roughly the same size (6’4 for Dach, 6’3 for Villardi) who have the potential to become two excellent NHL players in the near future.

Iaffalo, on the other hand, is a power forward who is capable of bringing a certain offensive touch to his game. He scores around 15 goals a year, but helps his team with his physicality and ability to disrupt opponents.

He reminds me a lot of Josh Anderson… even though Iaffalo is left-handed. We’re talking about two power forwards, players who are in short supply throughout the NHL.

So, to recap…

Anderson and Dach for Dubois? What do you think?

Personally, I’d say no. Not in a million years, in fact, since I probably wouldn’t even trade Dach for Dubois 1v1.

Yes, it’s obvious that to acquire a player of the caliber at PLD, you have to pay the price accordingly. But Dach showed last year that he can absolutely become one of the CH’s two centers of the future…

And I personally believe that Dach has greater potential than Dubois.

Right now, Pierre-Luc Dubois is still a member of the Winnipeg Jets. For how much longer? That’s a good question.

Because, in reality, the idea of him ending up with the Jets is becoming more and more popular. We shouldn’t be surprised to see the scenario materialize… And, it’s going to hurt to see the Kings go into next season with Dubois AND Phillip Danault as their center line.
