Marc Bergevin’s meeting with Brendan Shanahan reportedly lasted several hours
It was a Marc Bergevin team that inflicted the most embarrassing defeat on the Maple Leafs that Kyle Dubas built, in 2021, when the Habs overcame a 1-3 deficit to eliminate the North Division champions in the first round.

Now, two years later, the CH’s former GM could be hired in Toronto, in a bid to help the archrival overcome his demons.

This theory was relatively speculative, until Pierre LeBrun informed us today that Bergevin had spoken with Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan… for several hours.

Here it is, the key piece of information. We knew the team was going to meet Bergevin, but not how the meeting went.

It’s worth noting, though, that the meeting took place on Zoom, not in person.

The TSN tipster explained that the similarity between the Montreal and Toronto markets makes the candidacy of a man who was once GM in Montreal very attractive to Shanahan.

Darren Dreger, however, feels that Brad Treliving is the #1 candidate, and LeBrun supports his words; nevertheless, everyone agrees that the Leafs’ process is difficult to grasp, as the team remains very quiet.

Let’s face it: already Canadiens fans don’t want to see the Maple Leafs win, can you imagine if Marc Bergevin were in charge of this team? The feeling would be quite amplified, if the former CH GM were to have success with the team’s biggest rivals…

He’d certainly have the tools to do so, if he got the job. He’d also be under even more pressure than during his time in Montreal.

For now, it remains to be seen who will be offered the role of team general manager.
