Did you watch yesterday's game against the Leafs? If so, you must have seen the Lane Hutson Show.Seriously, the young Montreal Canadiens defenseman never ceases to amaze and astound us. Once again last night, he demonstrated the full extent of his talent, with something interesting happening every time he touched the puck.
As soon as he gets possession of the puck, you're on the edge of your seat, because you know he's going to make a great play, combining agility, deke, vision and a perfect pass. And on top of all that, Hutson proved yesterday that he can score, so he's definitely been working on his shot this summer.

This was also the case for several Leafs players who faced Hutson last night, as Anthony Stolarz (Leafs goalie), Nicolas Roy and Dakota Joshua all had high praise for #48 of the Habs after the game.
Lots of praise for Lane Hutson in Leafs room
Stolarz: “So shifty, so patient at the point … special player” Roy: “So fast. Feels like he's got one of the best cardios. I feel like he's never stopping” Joshua: “Helluva player. Really quick & agile. He keeps you guessing” – Mark Masters (@markhmasters) September 28, 2025
In short, Roy and Joshua, who are new to the Leafs, got to know Lane Hutson very well, while Stolarz saw nothing but fire in the Habs defenseman's goal.
Of course, it was only a preseason game, but all the same, it shows us once again how Hutson has only one speed, and it's always at maximum, whatever the occasion. It's amazing how Hutson is able to control a game on his own, as if he's playing a completely different game to everyone else. He's in his own zone and in his own league, which forces his opponents to always be ready.

on Lane Hutson:
“You watch him & he's playing a different game than everybody else…Any time you're lined up against him, you better be on your toes, cause his lateral movements are amongst the best out there right now in the game.” “He's gotten himself… pic.twitter.com/BgjVW5lgMT– /r/Habs (@HabsOnReddit) September 28, 2025
It's no small thing to compare the Habs' defenseman to the two best defensemen in the entire NHL.
In short, the Canadiens are really lucky to have Hutson on their team, and seriously, with performances like yesterday's, there's no reason to be worried about a potential second-year jinx. I have no doubt that Hutson will be even better than last season.
