Brent Sopel would love to break Trevor Zegras’ teeth

Many former players like to criticize current players or give their thoughts once they’ve retired.

Mike Commodore has often been in the news for his unfiltered comments, specifically about coach Mike Babcock.

This time, Brent Sopel, former defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens and several other clubs, spoke his mind about young Anaheim Ducks star Trevor Zegras.

And he didn’t mince his words.

“I’d take my stick with both hands and break his teeth and enjoy every second of it.” – Brent Sopel

Pretty ordinary from a former NHL veteran.

It’s normal to dislike someone in particular, but this kind of comment is simply unacceptable.

In the photo in the tweet above, you can see a comment from Trevor Zegras referencing the movie Dodgeball, telling Sopel not to forget the 5 Ds of dodgeball :

Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge. This legendary movie quote can be translated as dodge, dodge, dive, dive and dodge. The Anaheim Ducks Twitter account found Zegras’s comment quite funny.

At the start of last season, Sopel made another negative comment about Zegras. He called him a ” selfish ” player.

Well, it’s nothing out of the ordinary, but Sopel has always hated Zegras.

Rather odd that he should call him selfish, when Zegras is a player who has almost twice as many assists as goals. He has excellent vision, but regularly uses his magic hands to create space for himself, and possibly be one of the highlights.

It’s probably this aspect that he doesn’t seem to appreciate.

Little lace during games isn’t for everyone, and Sopel is clearly part of the group that hates magic on the ice and advocates the basics of the game.

Below is a Michigan goal attempt. The goalie didn’t seem to appreciate it and swung a stick at the striker’s legs.

Last week, Sopel wrote a disparaging au comment in response to this video.

He suggests breaking his wrist next time…

Again, not strong on his part. When you’re a former pro who played over 650 games in the NHL, a modicum of respect has to be present.

At least, that’s what I think.

In short, let’s sincerely hope that Sopel doesn’t really break Zegras’ teeth, or the wrist of someone who’s tempting Michigan.
