Cam Ward is the target of serious threats

The Tennessee Titans' start to the season isn't going as hoped.

With three losses in as many games, frustration is gradually setting in among the team's fans, though some are going way too far in their reactions toward quarterback Cam Ward and his entourage.

The young quarterback recently faced a particularly troubling situation. Members of his family received threatening messages from some disgruntled fans. His sister, Chantel Ward, had spoken out on social media to publicly denounce these attacks.

Cam Ward has now decided to comment on this controversy. When asked about it on Wednesday, the Titans' quarterback acknowledged that the situation was difficult, while emphasizing that his family stands by him.

“People are weird,” said Ward, who nevertheless believes that results on the field could help ease tensions. According to him, his loved ones understand the sacrifices associated with his career and are going through this experience with him.

Fan frustration reached a peak during the last game against the New York Giants. As Tennessee tried to turn the tide late in the game, Ward threw an interception that all but sealed his team's 12-7 loss.

With only 24 seconds left on the clock and the ball at New York's 7-yard line, Ward was looking for a way to put the Titans ahead. However, his pass was intercepted by Jevon Holland.

Cam Ward's family asks fans to draw a distinction

After the game, Chantel Ward pointed out that sports criticism is an integral part of professional football, but that the players' loved ones should never be targeted.

She explained, in particular, that fans see only part of what happens after games and asked that frustration be limited to the players' and the team's performance.

For his part, Cam Ward believes that improved results could ease the pressure. For now, the Titans must focus on finding solutions on the field to end their losing streak, while their quarterback tries to manage the fallout that extends far beyond the realm of football.
