The Rouge et Or led 27–24 at the start of the fourth quarter, but two additional touchdowns allowed them to widen the gap. Olivier Cool and William Tremblay both crossed the goal line, giving Laval a 12-point lead with less than six minutes remaining.

A game-ending stretch that could have changed everything

The Carabins, however, did not give up. Another touchdown cut the deficit to a single possession, and then Montreal recovered the ball with enough time left to attempt a final comeback.

Pepe Gonzalez then tried to put his team in a position to win. On the final play, the Carabins' quarterback threw a long pass to Simon Larose. The receiver came very close to making the catch, but the ball slipped out of his hands, dashing Montreal's hopes.

Gonzalez had an impressive night despite the loss, completing 30 passes for 415 yards. Enrique Jaimes Leclerc finished with 185 receiving yards, while Larose added 118. Leclair, Gregory Mulenda-St-Pierre, and Mathieu Barsalou scored the Carabins' touchdowns.

For Laval, Victor Charland also delivered a solid performance. He completed 26 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns. Olivier Cool caught two of his touchdown passes, while Guillaume Cauchon caught another. Cauchon, in fact, had an exceptional night with 181 receiving yards.

William Tremblay and Jérémy Ouellette also scored rushing touchdowns for the Rouge et Or.

Tensions flared after the final play when several players from both teams exchanged words in the middle of the field. Officials had to intervene to separate the groups.

The next matchup between Laval and Montreal will take place on October 31, in the final game of the RSEQ regular season.

Elsewhere on Saturday, McGill handily defeated Sherbrooke 34-1, while Concordia beat Bishop's 10-5.
