The draft will resume at 11 a.m. this morning.
The Canadiens still have seven picks. Their first pick will come at the end of the second round, 61st overall. That's part of making it to the semifinals in the playoffs: the draft takes longer for the fans.
But it's obviously worth it.
Entering Day 2 of the #NHLDraft
, the #Habs
have the following picks:
Round 2 = 61st
, Round 3 = 93rd
, Round 4 = 103rd + 125th
, Round 6 = 189th
, Round 7 = 221st + 224th— Priyanta Emrith (@HabsInHighHeels) June 27, 2026
In the past, we've often seen Kent Hughes not shy away from trading picks, if necessary, on the draft floor. We should say on the floor of the CN Complex, but anyway.
Will that happen again this year?
On this topic, Eric Engels pointed out that the Canadiens often tend to move up in the draft. He says he wouldn't be surprised to see the team move up to draft before the 61st pick.
Interesting…
Habs currently slated to pick 61st in Round 2.
But given their tendencies, I'd bet on them picking sooner than that. Won't be surprised to see them trade up the order.— Eric Engels (@EricEngels) June 27, 2026
That would be exciting. Even if that's not what we meant when we wondered this morning about when Kent Hughes might make a move next. #BigTrade
If he's going to make a move like that, it'll happen in the next few hours. After all, things are going to move fast. Saturday's rounds don't move at the same pace as Friday's. #Faster
I'm all for the idea of moving up in the draft again, even if it means giving up a late-round pick. The Habs, after all, need to add quality rather than quantity—they've got plenty of prospects in the pipeline.
And if they do, they'll surely have a specific name in mind…
Another Russian who has me intrigued on this second day of the draft.
Matvei Kotkov.
The standout player of the MHL playoffs.
“I really like him,” a source in Russia tells me. “Hard-working, highly intelligent, and skilled at finding open spaces.” pic.twitter.com/U14sjzaoUl
