This morning, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton spoke to the media in Montreal.
Basically, it was clear that the Canadiens' management is happy with the team's season, but that doesn't mean they want to rest on their laurels.
They know full well that there's work to be done.
“If you had told me last year that we'd finish the season with 106 points and make it to the conference finals, I don't know if I would have believed you!” – Kent Hughes

By necessity, management knows that roster moves for the offseason will happen soon. It's already June, after all.
Kent Hughes doesn't expect to give up major assets for a player whose contract is expiring. That said, he'll make thoughtful decisions to take the team to the next level.
That makes sense.
There's still work to be done to achieve the desired long-term identity. The club wants to take the same approach during the 2026 offseason as it did in the 2025 offseason, when Noah Dobson and Zachary Bolduc arrived in town.
And on that note, Kent Hughes has already started calling his counterparts to find out who's available and who isn't.
He mentioned that at this time last year, he didn't necessarily know that Dobson was available. Sometimes it's not until June that a club or a player feels a change of scenery is necessary.
Management knows that the Canadiens could have been eliminated in the first round and that there is still work to be done. The plan (which is flexible) continues to unfold.
We'll see what form it takes this summer.
“There are a lot of positives to take from this year, both at the team level and individually. It's certainly not easy to lose the way we did”—Kent Hughes
