David Savard is still close to the Montreal Canadiens organization.
The proof?
This morning, the club's former defenseman was present at the team's practice at the CN Complex in Brossard. He was sitting right next to Jeff Gorton and watching his former teammates closely on the ice:
There has been a lot of talk about the idea of David Savard taking on a role with the Canadiens after his retirement.

Obviously, we know he's really appreciated in the locker room and in the team offices. We're talking about a guy who was a fan favorite, and for good reason.
That said, Savard still chats with a lot of guys and opened up about Samuel Montembeault, who is also one of his close friends in everyday life. What did he say?
Basically, Savard said he still has confidence in Samuel. He admitted that things have been tougher for the goalie lately (we understand why), but he's convinced of one thing: Monty will come back mentally stronger when the opportunity arises.
I have no problem believing that Sam will come back mentally extremely strong. – David Savard
In the interview (RDS), Savard also mentioned that Montembeault is a guy who works extremely hard in life. And that explains why he thinks the goalie will come back strong:

Honestly, I hope so too.
Samuel Montembeault isn't a bad goalie, deep down. He wasn't selected by the Canadian team to participate in the 4 Nations Tournament by chance, and if the Habs made the playoffs last year, it's largely thanks to him.
But it's up to him to do what it takes to get back on his feet.
Whether in Montreal or elsewhere…
