Ivan Demidov has been on fire lately.

And his exploits have not gone unnoticed.

The Canadiens' Ivan Demidov was named NHL Rookie of the Month for December. And you know what? It's well deserved.

Demidov collected 14 points in 15 games during the month of December.

But… it's the fact that he's started to dominate games that particularly impresses me. The game is starting to slow down, it seems… and that's good news for the Canadiens in a way.

Right now, Demidov is on pace for (almost) 70 points in his rookie season. He's wasted no time getting used to the NHL game, which is why Martin St-Louis is starting to give him a bigger role in terms of playing time.

The kid's on a roll.

And the beauty of it is… he's only 20. He's already one of the NHL's good offensive players, and that's only going to get better with time too.

Seeing him named NHL Rookie of the Month is not only well deserved… but it's likely to help his confidence even more. He's started to use his shot more, the results are there… and I'm curious to see what it'll be like for the rest of the season.

But one thing's for sure: he's really making a name for himself right now. And if he keeps up the pace… he could really go home with the Calder Trophy.

That would be really special, because let's not forget that in 24-25, it was Lane Hutson who was voted NHL Rookie of the Year.

Two Canadiens players in a row for the Calder Trophy… that would be exciting!
