If Evgeni Malkin goes to Florida, it could push Sidney Crosby to leave the Penguins

In recent weeks, Evgeni Malkin has opened the door to leaving the Penguins, basically saying that Brad Marchand's decision (to move to Sunrise and win the Stanley Cup) has given him pause. It's an avenue he could take, bearing in mind that he's at the end of his contract. Then, after specifically naming the Florida Panthers (he owns a house there), Malkin saw the club's first center injured. It'll be hard for the Panthers to replace Aleksander Barkov, of course. But an Evgeni Malkin energized by a move away from Pittsburgh would be a good start. I've always thought that made sense – and I'm sure I'm not the only one.In fact, there are plenty of people in the NHL who think it's an avenue the Penguins are fully considering right now… and I'm not surprised. This was reported on the Halford and Brough show by Greg Wyshynski.

Of course, if Evgeni Malkin were to raise his hand, it would give Sidney Crosby even more reason to consider finishing his career elsewhere.

If the Penguins were to trade Malkin to the Florida Panthers, Kent Hughes and many of his counterparts (including the one in Colorado) would undoubtedly want to put pressure on Pat Brisson to give up his client.

But for the Canadiens to be attractive, they'll need to be well placed in the standings...
