24 hours later, last night’s CH loss still has a bitter taste, especially after the team’s superb run to 2024-2025.

If there’s one person who has dragged this team since mid-season, it’s Nick Suzuki. Despite his young age and his high-pressure title of captain, he has more than delivered the goods.

Renaud Lavoie, who was in the team’s dressing room after yesterday’s game, spoke to JiC about the captain’s state of mind.

“In the dressing room, he was sitting at his locker with his head between his legs. He was deeply disappointed with the result. I’m not saying the other players weren’t disappointed, but the captain of the Habs, it came down to a solid defeat.” – Renaud Lavoie.

Sure, losing like that must have hurt, but as Martin St-Louis said, the joy that will come in the years to come will make us forget this difficult elimination.

If some criticized the captain’s 5-on-5 work during the series, it’s criticism that’s hard to understand. Suzuki can say mission accomplished.

He piloted the only productive trio and was a prime target for opponents. Was he as flamboyant as at the end of the season? No, but the context was very different.

Capitals coach Spencer Carbury put a lot of emphasis on the captain’s work during the series, both in front of the media and on the ice.

Suzuki will only grow from this experience and will be able to knock on Kent Hughes’ door this summer to ask for reinforcements.

After asking him to keep the team intact at the 4 Nations break, he can make another request, this time for a 2nd center.

If he’d had him this season, the CH could have competed even more and, who knows, even won the series. The games were so close, and the Habs’ lack of opportunism led to their downfall.
