Jonathan Huberdeau: more than a month since his last goal

Ever since Jonathan Huberdeau left Aleksander Barkov and the Panthers, nothing has gone right. The Calgary Flames’ Jonathan Huberdeau can’t find his feet on the ice.

Last year, we thought it was because of the change or his coach… but no. Right now, it’s clear that the Quebecer just can’t play well anymore.

His 55 points last year look almost like the unattainable star for the Huberdeau of 2023-2024, who has just 15 points in 33 games. He lines up for less than a point in both games.

And he had to redeem himself this year…

At $10.5 million per season for seven more years and the end of the current season, Huberdeau isn’t making anyone in Calgary very happy. His four goals are enough to enrage his bosses.

What’s special is that his four goals were scored in two (short) sequences.

  • October 14th
  • October 19th
  • November 16th
  • November 20th

Twice during the season, he could say he had two goals in his last three games… but nothing more. Did we tell you that’s too little for a player of his calibre – and who earns so much money?

Huberdeau hasn’t scored in his last 15 games (for over a month, in fact) and he has no points in December, i.e. in 10 games. He’s clearly lost confidence in his shot.

Meanwhile, Matthew Tkachuk…

His -14 differential is the worst on his team and 10 guys have more goals than him in Calgary. It must be pretty upsetting that he can’t deliver the goods.

It’s also worth noting that he and Pierre-Luc Dubois, two guys who are doing badly this year, have nine goals between them. The Flames player has four and the Kings player has five. Together, they have as many as Sean Monahan and Nick Suzuki, who have nine each.

It’s not normal, and it’s going to take something extreme to remedy the situation. A match in the stands, perhaps?
