Cayden Primeau to play goalie tomorrow in Buffalo

This morning, on the sidelines of training, we learned that David Savard would not be taking a flight to Buffalo. He won’t be taking part in tomorrow night’s game, as he doesn’t have the green light.

He may be close to a comeback, but he’s not ready.

Because the CH trained as part of an optional practice only, we can’t have answers to all our questions. So we don’t know if Joel Armia will return tomorrow in place of Michael Pezzetta – or anyone else.

Nor do we know if there will be a change on defense. You’d think not, considering the guys who are playing deserve it and Savard can’t come back just yet.

But in the last few minutes, we heard from the goalkeepers.

It started when Jake Allen confirmed to the press that he wasn’t going to be the starter against the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night. That was the first clue.

Given that Samuel Montembeault has kept goal for the last two games and that the ménage à trois would make a third straight start difficult, it was easy to deduce what would happen next.

And Martin St-Louis confirmed that Cayden Primeau would get the net against the Sabres.

So the Canadiens return to their rotation after making an exception on Thursday. But when you think about it, it’s a good exception to make based on the club’s schedule.

Why? Because Primeau will face the Sabres, a club not as good as the Habs. Then, expect Jake Allen to face the Preds at home. And Nashville has a better club than Buffalo.

Prolongation

For what it’s worth, after this weekend’s games, the Habs will have two days off before facing the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.

It’s a good game for Monty, isn’t it?
