Lias Andersson: make or break at CH training camp
The Canadiens signed Swedish forward Lias Andersson on July 2. A player with enormous potential, he never lived up to expectations.

He could, however, have one last chance with the Habs this season.

Allan Mitchell of The Athletic selected an underrated player for every NHL team and decided that Lias Andersson is that kind of player for the Tricolore.

I have to agree with Mitchell. Nothing confirms that Lias Andersson will be a superb player, but with his accomplishments, you have to give the runner a chance. Especially when the rider has signed a small, two-season contract.

Andersson has agreed with the CH on the terms of a one-season contract that will pay him $775,000.

With a bigger contract, you’d think the idea would have been risky. Andersson is only 24 and on his third NHL team. That’s what’s worrying. Even so, Andersson’s young age means his career can bounce back.

In 110 NHL games, Andersson has amassed just 17 points, including 10 goals. However, his final season in the AHL with the Ontario Reign should not be forgotten. He was dominant, amassing 59 points, including 31 goals, in 67 games.

Lias Andersson has the talent to play in the NHL. He has a superb vision of the game, is able to control the puck well and has a good shot. When he was selected 7th overall in the 2017 draft, he was described as a player with an impeccable work ethic.

That’s the work ethic we need to see in Montreal. A player who gives his heart and soul to the Montreal club almost always becomes a crowd favorite. And with the support of the crowd, it gives a certain push towards better performances.

But he’ll have to learn to manage his emotions. We all remember his silver medal throw in 2018 at the World Junior Championship. Fortunately for him, the Habs organization has several quality employees who will be able to help him manage all that.

Here’s hoping the tide turns for Lias Andersson and the Habs find an excellent 3rd- or 4th-row player in him for years to come.

In a gust

– Wow.

– The Blue Jays find their way back to victory.

– The Senators have an excellent future defender on their hands.

– It would really hurt the Bucks.
