For a few years now, the Canadiens have been in a rebuilding process, aiming to build a team that will bring the first Stanley Cup back to Montreal since 1993.
The two-headed monster
Since January 2022, the Habs has been able to count on Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes to navigate the Montreal ship, as they form an effective duo at the head of the organization. What would a rebuild be without its architects?
The Captain
In Nick Suzuki, the Canadiens have an excellent young leader, who sets an example for his teammates, particularly with his mature and inspiring behavior. At 25 years old, number 14 is heading towards the best offensive season of his career, averaging at least one point produced per game.
Martin St-Louis
Although he has very little experience behind an NHL bench, Martin St-Louis is doing a good job with his team, especially with his teachings to the young players.
Demidov
Selected in the first round of the 2024 draft, Ivan Demidov is considered the best prospect for the Canadiens since Guy Lafleur. Will the 18-year-old Russian be the next franchise player for the team?
Cole Caufield
The 24-year-old winger could become the first 40-goal scorer for the Habs since Vincent Damphousse in 1993-1994. It’s been a long time, hasn’t it? Notably, number 13 currently has 25 goals.
The Prodigy
Very quickly, Lane Hutson has become an impact player for the Tricolore, creating offense in every appearance, like a true magician. He will be a Montreal Canadien for a long time, as he is adored internally. He might even earn the Calder Trophy, given the pace at which he is producing in 2024-2025.
The Older Brothers
To mentor the young players in the organization, the presence of big brothers is essential, so Mike Matheson and David Savard are extremely important at this time.
Juraj Slafkovský
The great Slovak is only 20 years old. He will become one of the most dominant power forwards in the NHL, sooner or later, it’s just a matter of time. Patience is key!
Playoffs or not?

Michael Hage

Recalled last December, Jakub Dobes had immediate success in the NHL, showing promising skills for a goaltender of his age. He is likely to return to discussions about the identity of the future goalie for the Bleu, Blanc et Rouge.
The First Line
As of today, it is easy to say that the Habs have found their true first line, which is made up of Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Juraj Slafkovsky. Could it eventually become the second line when the CH reaches maturity? The mystery still lingers.
The true goalie of the future?
Jacob Fowler, given his dominance in the NCAA and his potential, is considered the goalie of the future for the Canadiens organization. The discussion remains open to this day, especially since Jakub Dobes has been making a strong case recently.
Another good pick?
If the Canadiens were to continue their fall in the standings, it is clear that the organization will want to get its hands on another top prospect to add more excitement to its rebuild. A top-5 or top-10 pick again? Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton could benefit from it.
