Frédéric Allard leaves the Canadiens organization

In recent months, the Canadiens have acquired Frédéric Allard. The Quebec defenseman was playing for the Los Angeles Kings, and brought depth to the blue line.

He had the chance to play for the CH when they needed a defenseman in Vegas. And since he lived in California, he was called back.

The man who also played the last two games for the Canadiens this season was not at the heart of the organization’s plan, as he was sometimes overlooked by the Laval Rocket. We could have expected him to leave, but he did.

As Patrik Bexell, who is well known in Europe, reports, the Quebecer is headed for the SHL.

It’s worth noting that because of his age (25) and the fact that he’s only played four games in the NHL, he’s eligible for full autonomy – not just with restrictions.

The man who makes his life with Rosalie Drainville, daughter of the Minister of Education, has therefore chosen the European route.

It’s not the first time he’ll be playing in Europe (he played in Austria during the pandemic), but it will be a first experience for him in Sweden.

Did he feel he wouldn’t get his chance elsewhere in the NHL? He might. In Europe, he’ll no doubt get plenty of playing time, and that’s not to be sneezed at either.

The case of the organization’s first unrestricted free agent is now settled. What about the others?

Madison Bowey, Corey Schueneman, Otto Leskinen, Anthony Richard, Paul Byron, Sean Monahan, Chris Tierney, Alex Belzile and Jonathan Drouin will all be unrestricted free agents on July 1.
