Cole Caufield’s season came to an end in January. He injured his shoulder and had to go under the knife to repair it.
There’s been a lot of talk about him in recent weeks, not least because of the signing of his new eight-year contract… But I woke up this morning wondering how his rehabilitation was going. It seems to be going well at the moment.
Coincidence or not, a video of him training was posted on Twitter yesterday, and it’s clear that the player is in good shape. He doesn’t seem to have any shoulder pain, as we see him working hard with the ultimate goal of being ready for the CH’s next training camp.
A good sign. Towards the end of the video, as Marc Dumont (Montreal Hockey Now) points out, we can clearly see that Caufield “has put on muscle”…
Alright then, Cole. https://t.co/gL7YKCJ1GM pic.twitter.com/EXWcF7Qkrt

Cole Caufield is a hard worker and it doesn’t surprise me too much to see him working hard to maximize his chances of performing at the start of next season.
I really have the impression that #22 will arrive at camp hungry as a lion. He was on course to score 46 goals last year, having totalled 26 (in 46 games) before seeing his season come to an abrupt end…
And I’m sure that’s even more motivation for him to come back strong next season. He won’t say it out loud, but the 50-goal plateau is definitely in his sights, and if he stays healthy throughout the 2023-2024 season, he’s got a good chance of reaching it.
I don’t really like to get involved in this kind of prediction, but I’m going to do it anyway. Last year, I expected him to explode offensively and predicted a 40-net haul if he was able to play the entire season alongside Nick Suzuki.
I’m going to say the same thing for next season. It’s realistic, although I’d really like to see him score more than 45.
He’s got the tools to do it. Now that he’s in shape, we can only hope that he stays healthy over the next few years. Last year, watching the Habs when he wasn’t in uniform was a bit boring.

– Absolutely. It’s not necessarily an easy decision.
– It’s up to you to answer. To me, no.
