Last May, the Montreal Victory won the Walter Cup. It was a wonderful story for the city during a spring when the province was already buzzing with hockey excitement thanks to the Canadiens' playoff run.

And in the hockey world in general, seeing Marie-Philip Poulin win the one trophy she'd never won before also made a lot of people happy.

Just like with the Stanley Cup, all the players got to spend a day with the trophy. Except for Dara Greig (Ridly's sister, who plays for the Senators)—she was in for a nasty surprise when it came time to spend her day with the trophy.

The reason? The trophy never arrived. It was shipped to Alberta, but it never reached its destination: the box in which the trophy was shipped arrived empty, which makes the whole story rather bizarre.

And right now, no one knows where the Walter Cup is.

It's important to note that the Walter Cup currently on the road is not the actual trophy. It is a replica, while the original trophy is housed in the Hall of Fame.

Clearly, lessons have been learned from the history of the Stanley Cup, which has also been lost (and even stolen) on several occasions throughout its history.

It's also interesting to note that all of this is happening just as the Walter in question, Mark Walter, is at the center of a major legal case in the United States. He is suspected of using illegal funds to provide cash to the Los Angeles Dodgers (which he owns) and is currently under investigation.

This is most likely unrelated, of course… but the timing is still rather peculiar. Let's hope the trophy is found as soon as possible now.
