It had been a long time since the Montreal Canadiens had given us such wonderful and intense emotions as they did during the 2025–2026 season.

What we experienced last season was simply magical, and it gave us a wonderful glimpse of what's to come for this great team.

The city of Montreal went completely wild during the playoffs, and it's clear that this has set the bar very high for the team heading into the 2026–2027 season.

Reaching the conference finals last year puts the Habs in a position where they must improve in some way to continue their quest for one—or even multiple—Stanley Cups.

So we all have our own vision of what a successful season would look like for the Habs in '26-'27, and let's just say it revolves around Pierre McGuire's perspective.

In fact, McGuire believes the Habs could call it a successful season if they make the playoffs and manage to win a round.

That's what the hockey analyst said during his appearance on The Sick Podcast, where he discussed his expectations for the team heading into the upcoming season.

McGuire also noted that last season, his expectations were even higher as the season progressed, as he saw the Habs losing in the Stanley Cup Final to the Colorado Avalanche.

It was a very bold prediction, but in the end, it wasn't far off, as both the Avalanche and the Canadiens were eliminated in the conference finals—the final four.

Pierre McGuire therefore believes that after an excellent 2025–2026 season, the Canadiens can only look ahead and succeed once again in the playoffs.

The hockey analyst isn't too concerned about Kent Hughes' lack of activity this summer, as he has confidence in the team, even going so far as to say that Oliver Kapanen could surprise us and be the solution at the second-center position.

If he's put on some mass this summer and manages to play with more physicality and aggression, who knows—it might just be possible.

In short, let's see if the Canadiens can have a successful season in the eyes of their analysts and fans.
