Things are pretty unusual in Detroit right now.

Captain Dylan Larkin wants to leave, and there's no GM. Could Steve Yzerman's replacement convince Larkin to stay? Maybe.

One thing's for sure: #71 might lose his “C.” And if he does, Moritz Seider is tipped to be the next captain of the storied franchise, according to Ansar Khan (Oilers Now).

That would be pretty special…

It happened in Toronto a few years ago when Auston Matthews took the “C” from John Tavares.

If Larkin were to lose his captaincy, it could create some tension in the locker room. The odds are still in favor of Larkin leaving, though. Detroit needs to rip off the Band-Aid soon and move on.

Simon Edvinsson Compared to the Franchise's Best Defenseman

The Wings have a strong defense. In addition to Seider, Simon Edvinsson represents the future on the blue line.

And today, in an article in The Hockey News, he was compared to none other than possibly the franchise's greatest player: Nicklas Lidstrom. No pressure, kid.

At the end of her article, Carol Schram (THN) wonders whether Edvinsson will be able to reach Lidstrom's exceptional heights as his game matures. It's a tall order, but Detroit has high expectations for its young defenseman.

Edvinsson, who still managed to rack up 25 points this season, is 23 years old and is currently a restricted free agent. He's eligible to receive a hostile offer, but let's just say the Wings—who have just under $20 million available under the salary cap—would easily match any potential hostile offer.

The Swede is the only key player in the organization still without a contract.
