The Flames had a rather… difficult 25-26 season.

The team won only 34 games last season, and everyone agrees that's nowhere near enough to make the playoffs in the National Hockey League.

The result? Right now in Calgary, the team is looking to turn the page and begin a rebuild.

Elliotte Friedman discussed this in a recent episode of his podcast: the Flames have reached the point where they've accepted that they need to rebuild. At this point, the front office in Calgary may not have had a choice… because there aren't many quality players left on the roster.

But…

But there's one guy who could be of interest to a team like the Canadiens, and I'm referring to Zach Whitecloud.

This isn't the first time his name has come up in Montreal.

That said, I wonder if Kent Hughes is thinking about taking advantage of the fact that the Flames are officially entering a rebuild to acquire the right-handed defenseman from Calgary. The Flames could use this opportunity to acquire draft picks or prospects, which would make sense given their rebuild… and we know the Habs have the assets to make a trade like that.

Add to that the fact that the Flames now have Zayne Parekh and Simon Nemec on the right side of their defense. If the team wants to give them as much ice time as possible to develop, perhaps Whitecloud is the (right-handed) defenseman they have too many of right now…

It's clear from the photo above that the Flames won't have the roster to be successful next season.

And that, too, could help the Canadiens' GM convince Craig Conroy (GM) to let a player like Zach Whitecloud go—a move that would immediately improve the Montreal Canadiens' defense.

It's up to Kent Hughes to take advantage of this (or at least try to)…

In a nutshell

– Well…

– He's going to be good.

– I love it.
