The Canadiens have been absolutely unstoppable for a while now. The team has won its last seven games, and more than ever, it has a real shot at finishing at the top of its division.

Keep in mind that right now, they're just two points behind the Lightning (having played the same number of games) and the Sabres (who have played one more game). It's a very, very tight race.

All of this means that right now, the Habs are seen as a genuine contender for the Cup. And in a way, when the second-youngest team in the league is in this position, you have to give credit to the team's coach.

And Darren Dreger, who discussed the Habs on The Ray & Dregs Hockey Podcast, was pretty clear: in his view, Martin St-Louis should be considered in the running for the Jack Adams Award.

Reminder: right now, the two top favorites for the award are Lindy Ruff and Jon Cooper… who coach the Sabres and the Lightning.

Of course, Ruff and Cooper are strong candidates as well. Ruff has managed to get the Sabres back into the playoffs (which is a miracle in itself), and Cooper, who has never won the trophy since the start of his career, is having another incredible season with Tampa.

But in reality, it's interesting to wonder what would happen if the Habs were to finish ahead of both of those teams in the standings. Because, let's face it, seeing the second-youngest team in the entire NHL finish first in the top division of the Bettman circuit would be quite an achievement in itself.

Could we justify giving it to Cooper instead of St. Louis if his Lightning (which everyone saw as a powerhouse this year) finished behind the Habs in the standings? That would be unusual.

So it will be interesting to follow all this… because in addition to first place in the Atlantic, one might wonder if the three-way race between the Sabres, the Lightning, and the Habs is also a race for the Jack Adams Trophy among the three coaches.

Remember that St. Louis was a finalist last year: will this be his year?
