Some trades don't age well. And according to Randy Karraker, the one involving Logan Mailloux and Zachary Bolduc could be one of them for St. Louis.
During a recent episode ofSTL Sports Central, Karraker didn't mince words when discussing what Blues general manager Doug Armstrong might be thinking today.
“I have to believe if Doug Armstrong could have that one back, he would take it.” – Randy Karraker

A strong statement, especially when you put the trade in context.
On July 1, 2025, the St. Louis Blues traded Zachary Bolduc to the Habs in exchange for right-handed defenseman Logan Mailloux. It was a one-for-one trade, with no draft picks involved.
At the time, St. Louis was looking to solidify and rejuvenate its defensive corps, while Montreal wanted to add a young forward capable of playing physically and scoring goals.
At the time, the trade seemed like a balanced gamble. But a few months later, the Blues are looking at the trade differently.
According to Karraker, beyond the statistics, it's mainly what Bolduc brought to the team's identity that is lacking today. His intensity, toughness, and physical commitment are elements that are no longer really found in St. Louis' current lineup.
According to the host, it is precisely this type of player that the Blues seem to have lost along the way.
On the habs side, however, Bolduc gave fans reason to be optimistic at the start of the season. He quickly carved out a place for himself in the lineup, displaying energy, tenacity, and a constant presence in the danger zone.
His start to the season was frankly encouraging.
That said, the reality has been more nuanced lately.
In recent weeks, his offensive production has been much more subdued and his impact less noticeable. This is a more difficult stretch, typical of a young player still adapting to the NHL, but it serves as a reminder that his development is far from complete.
Meanwhile, Mailloux has yet to fully establish himself in St. Louis, which further fuels doubts surrounding the trade.
According to Randy Karraker, if Doug Armstrong had the chance to make that move again, he would hesitate much less.
