Shane Wright says pro experience will help him at training camp

Shane Wright’s first year in the pros didn’t go as he’d hoped.

After all, the player wasn’t able to establish himself in the NHL, and we know how much he wanted that to happen. These things happen, we agree, and just because he wasn’t able to do it doesn’t mean he’s a flop.

It’s far too early to say things like that.

Wright simply wasn’t ready yet. The Kraken, at some point, saw fit to send him off to finish the season in junior, and even so, the 4th pick in the 2022 auction was given the opportunity to finish the year in the AHL.

He admits that the latest setbacks have helped him grow, both as a person and as a player. After all, he’s had to adjust a few times in recent months, and in the end, experience speaks for itself.

In an interview with NHL.com, Wright admitted that even though he’s only a year older, the experience he’s gained at the professional level could help cement his place in Seattle next year.

I love the fact that he believes in himself so much. That’s the right mentality to have, especially for a player his age.

In Seattle, we really like the 19-year-old’s progression.

And, in a way, it’s true when he says he gained a lot of pro experience last year. He may have only played eight games with the big club in 2022-2023, but he was part of the team’s entourage until January.

That’s no mean feat. He’s had a taste of the NHL, and he knows what to expect next season.

He’s got his eyes set on the big league, and I still think he’ll arrive at Kraken training camp hungry as a lion. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him start the year in the NHL…

And even if he can’t do it, it’s not a disaster.

Then again, the kid’s 19.
