It was a very quiet Friday night yesterday in the National Hockey League.

Only two games were on the schedule.

Here's what stood out from the night, though.

1. Frédéric Brunet's heartwarming story continues

Every year, we expect to see the Boston Bruins end up at the bottom of the standings, but every time, they manage to surprise us and prove us wrong.

Once again this season, they weren't necessarily expected to be among the top teams in the East, but for now—even if the sample size is small—the Bruins sit atop the Atlantic Division with six wins in eight games.

They earned their sixth win of the season last night with a 4–2 victory over the Ducks in Anaheim.

And in that win, we saw Quebec rookie Frédéric Brunet score his first NHL goal on a power-play slap shot.

The Quebec defenseman was playing in his fifth game of the season—and sixth of his career—after being selected by the Bruins in the fifth round (132nd overall) of the 2022 draft.

Brunet's story is an inspiring one, and we wish him all the best moving forward.

Despite the loss, it's worth noting the superb team goal scored by the Ducks.

2. Artturi Lehkonen Is on Fire

Here's a player who hasn't stopped impressing us since leaving the Montreal Canadiens.

Lehkonen has gone from a third-line player on an average—if not mediocre—team to a key member of the top-6 on one of the NHL's best teams, the Colorado Avalanche.

And this season, Lehkonen is performing even better than in previous years, as he's on pace for one point per game.

With his two goals yesterday in the Avalanche's 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Lehkonen already has six goals and eight points in eight games.

In short, Lehkonen is really on fire early in the season—let's hope he stays healthy.
