Preseason games for the 2026–2027 season are in full swing in the KHL, as all 22 teams in the Kontinental Hockey League are already gearing up for the upcoming season.

We'll obviously be keeping a close eye on this league once again, as we do every year—both for the performances of the Montreal Canadiens' prospects and for the zany moments.

In fact, it's not uncommon for some pretty funny or unusual moments to occur in the KHL.

We were treated to just such a scene yesterday in a game between Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg and Traktor Chelyabinsk, when a former NHL player made headlines.

If you remember the controversial Daniel Sprong from his NHL days, well, you won't be too surprised by what happened in this game.

The scene begins when Sprong scores the game-winning goal for Avtomobilist in overtime to secure a 4-3 victory in this preseason game.

So far, nothing out of the ordinary, but that's when the unusual moment occurred: immediately after scoring, Sprong began taunting his own teammates.

You read that right—Sprong started taunting his own team, staring down his bench and shouting, “That's why I'm the best,” all while repeatedly pounding his chest.

It's a very unusual situation that you certainly don't see every day, but let's just say it's not all that surprising given Sprong's track record.

The Dutch forward has built a reputation over the course of his career as a player with an unpleasant and haughty personality, in addition to being a huge nuisance on defense.

Last season, he was actually benched for the second half of the KHL season, even though he was the top scorer (31 points in 29 games) for CSKA Moscow.

Let's just say that speaks volumes about the player!

It's also important to note that Sprong reacted the way he did after his game-winning goal most likely because, just the day before, rumors had surfaced suggesting he would be traded.

In short, even though the rumors were denied, Sprong didn't hold back in expressing his dissatisfaction—and, above all, in bragging about his achievements to demonstrate his importance.

Let's just say we understand why Sprong is on his 13th professional team—including seven in the NHL—in a 10-year career.
