Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon has been in the news recently for taking up two entire lines on the Stanley Cup to list the names of his family members.

Another name on the list is that of Quebec native Nicolas Deslauriers. Why? After all, he didn't play at least 41 regular-season games with the team or any games in the finals. He did contribute more than Dundon's family members, though.

In fact, even though he didn't meet the criteria, the Hurricanes were determined to have Deslauriers' name on the trophy. He was an exemplary teammate.

Acquired from the Flyers on March 6, the Quebec native was an excellent teammate, and if his name hadn't been on the Cup, “there would have been a mutiny.” That's what the general manager's special advisor, Justin Williams, said.

His name was going to be there. There would have been a mutiny if it hadn't been. – Justin Williams

Deslauriers played only seven regular-season games and a single playoff game with the Hurricanes. His impact, however, was immeasurable, which is why he signed a new two-year contract in late June.

“It's so special that my name is on it [the Cup].” – Nicolas Deslauriers

The Quebec native says it's a huge boost for his career and that joining this team midseason was very easy. He couldn't have hoped for a better environment.

A player like him would have been very useful in Montreal. Plus, he didn't cost a thing…
