The Lightning managed to tie the Canadiens in the standings with 106 points on Monday.

Tampa Bay was looking to pick up two points against the Red Wings to improve its chances in the tight race for first place in the Atlantic Division.

Mission accomplished for Jon Cooper's squad, which defeated Detroit 4-3 in overtime.

The Lightning thought they were in a position to win the game in regulation.

Tampa Bay held a one-goal lead with five minutes left in the third period, but Alex DeBrincat spoiled the party by tying the game.

Nikita Kucherov managed to limit the damage by scoring the game-winner in overtime.

This win stings a bit for the Bolts, because by winning in overtime, it leaves the door wide open for the Sabres. Buffalo needs just one win in regulation to secure its spot at the top of the Atlantic Division.

With Tampa's win, the Canadiens are now forced to earn at least one point in their final game of the season to have any hope of securing home-ice advantage.

It will also take a lot of help from the Lightning and/or the Sabres, hoping they lose.

For now, nothing is set in stone. The only confirmed series in the East so far is the one between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers.

In brief

– David Reinbacher was excellent in his first game.

– The Flyers have officially qualified for the playoffs.

– He mustn't let his last game become a distraction.
