The Canadiens are enjoying a fine 2025-26 season. The club has a record of 28-15-7, which currently places it third in the Atlantic(and in a very good position to make the playoffs).
That said, the club isn't perfect. You'd think the club would want to add a little depth ahead of the trade deadline.
We often talk about sandpaper and grit, for example… but JiC, in a piece for TVA Sports, mentioned a completely different type of player as a potential target for Kent Hughes.
The host says that the Habs could, in fact, use another center forward. And he named Jonathan Toews as a guy who could help the Habs.
In particular, he wondered if Toews could be the centerpiece in Montreal.
A veteran centerfielder, why not?

Remember that Toews, who is back this season after a two-year absence, isn't having an incredible season with seven goals and 18 points in 49 games. That said, he's still dominant in the face-off circle… and in fact, his offensive production is superior to that of Phillip Danault and Jake Evans.
It would be interesting to see how these three guys would share the reps on the bottom-6, that said. But Toews, unlike the other two, would only be a rental player… except that his contract could quickly become very expensive due to the many performance bonuses included in it.
That said, we also know that the club has other needs. One of these is to find a regular defensive partner for Lane Hutson, who often plays musical chairs.
And Maxim Lapierre has targeted a guy who would fit that bill: Colton Parayko.

Parayko isn't having a great season, with no goals and just 12 assists in 50 games. But in reality, we know he's capable of much better than that, as he seems caught up in the Blues' slump.
And above all, at six feet, six inches, the 32-year-old defenseman is a big man, something the Habs defense isn't full of. That said, he's still under contract at $6.5 million until the end of the 2029-30 season.
So we're talking about two names that are clearly quite different. But in reality, both of them could give the Habs a helping hand.
To be continued.
