Let's appeal to the sacrosanct eye test.
When you watch Canadiens games, it's clear that Juraj Slafkovsky is often the best guy on the ice. And he's often the driving force behind the Habs' best line.
His 2.0 blossoming, two years after the one in 2024, is spectacular.
And when you look at the numbers, it's clear that Slaf is rolling in lots. He has 18 points, including two game-winning goals, in his last 12 games. That's 123 points in 82 games.
In fact, since December 19, he's the NHL's fourth-highest scorer, behind three celery stalks: Nikita Kucherov, Nathan MacKinnon, and Connor McDavid.
In 2022, the Canadiens drafted Slaf to be the best player of his crop the day the club would be able to be one of the NHL's powerhouses.
Right now, nobody's complaining, clearly. Except maybe Shane Wright…
Shane Wright: 16 points in 44 games.
Juraj Slafkovsky: 18 points in his last 12 games.
Crazy how the wheel turns in 3 1/2 years.

This means that right now, Slafkovsky (who gives his bosses a run for their money) is well and truly at the heart of the Canadiens' game plan – and their opponents', of course.
He's part of the group of youngsters who will take the Habs to the next level.
The Slovak, who returns to the Olympics next month, is not only proving Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, Martin Lapointe, and Nick Bobrov right, but also the coaching staff.
They're also the ones who got the winger to the next level.

If he keeps this up, he's well on his way to becoming a top-notch player across the NHL. Yesterday, on his three-point night, we saw that he continues to trust his shot more and more. And I'm not saying that to take anything away from his passing skills.
Clearly, the Habs have a good one on hand.

overtime
– The Canadiens have not announced a recall. It's safe to assume that Josh Anderson is the 13th forward on the road and could see some action this week.
So they're not on the road with the Canadiens. https://t. co/o8QSsnVPD2

Petrasso is sidelined, while Hidalgo is with the group.
Sirois is still on the sidelines.
