When it comes to drafting goaltenders, the Canadiens go for quantity. In recent years, the organization has added a number of goaltenders.
It's so difficult to predict the development of masked men that it's better to have more than one, in order to give yourself a chance of seeing several of them break through.
It's a good idea.
What's important to know is that the Canadiens are currently evaluating the idea of dipping into the QMJHL for the 2026 auction to continue replenishing their bank of prospects in front of the net.
According to François Dumas, who works for FM 93 in Rimouski, the Canadiens have held discussions with William Lacelle, the Océanic goaltender who is eligible for the next NHL draft.
The goaltender could be taken in the later rounds of the draft.
Obviously, we shouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet, given that we're still six months away from the next NHL draft and that the Canadiens are talking to a lot of people.
There are people whose job it is to talk to young people.
But the fact remains that seeing the Canadiens talking to a Québécois goaltender shows that, at this point, the Habs are considering the idea of drafting the young man.
Speaking of the draft, the Canadiens have all their picks in 2026, except for the fifth-round pick that went to Carey Price. The pick given to the Kings for Phillip Danault is the Blue Jackets', for those wondering.
The club also has one more fourth-round pick (Johnathan Kovacevic) and one more seventh-round pick (Cayden Primeau).

Jacob Fowler on Tuesday on his return to Boston after playing college hockey at BC:
“It's a little bit different, staying at the Four Seasons versus a dorm room. It was cool, I haven't been back in the city in a bit. A lot of memories in this building, some good, some bad…” pic.twitter.com/bnIWKyyVyF
