World Cup: she scores the winning goal without knowing that her father has died

Last night, Spain and England faced off in the final of the Women’s World Cup. It was an important match for both nations.

Spain won the match 1-0 thanks to a goal from Olga Carmona.

But ultimately, that’s not what we remember about this match. Why not? Because something bigger than the match itself happened after the Spaniards won.

The only scorer of the match, in fact, scored a goal without knowing that her father had died. Her team kept the news from her so that she could play her game with a clear head.

I’d hate it if someone did that to me one day. Keeping such information from me, even if not for a nefarious reason, would be horrible to me. But that’s not the point.

All this to say that the game’s only scorer has been through quite a situation, and let’s just say that the expression “a rollercoaster of emotions” takes on its full meaning in this situation.

I’m not sure how she feels about it, but on social networks, she said she finally had help from on high to score her all-important goal.

If she blames those who kept the information from her, let’s just say she’s hiding it well.

That day will always be special for her and her family. And frankly, I wonder how much living through such a moment might have helped her family cope with such news.

Because that’s what sport is all about.
