Overview of CH prospects: Rhett Pitlick is on fire in the NCAA

While there’s some concern about the development and progress of young players who have already made it to the pros, whether in Montreal or Laval, at least some Montreal Canadiens prospects are making progress.

Here’s a roundup of notable performances by CH prospects.

Rhett Pitlick – Left wing – age 22

Here’s a prospect we talk about very little, if at all.

Pitlick, drafted in the fifth round (131ᵉ overall) in 2019 by the Habs, has already been rolling his hump for three seasons in the NCAA.

Prior to this season, Pitlick was more of a support player for the University of Minnesota, and had yet to have a big college season.

But this season, Pitlick is finally blossoming.

He already has 17 points (eight goals and nine assists) in 16 games.

To put that in perspective, Pitlick had just 25 points (11 goals and 14 assists) in 40 games last season.

In short, Pitlick is on fire this season, and even more so recently, with 12 points in his last six games.

It’s all very well for Pitlick and the CH, but at the same time, at 22 years of age in the NCAA, it’s less impressive to dominate in this way.

Still, Pitlick is building a strong case to potentially earn himself a pro contract for next season.

The Laval Rocket may decide to give him a one-year contract to prove himself in the pros.

Stay tuned.

Cédrick Guindon – Center – 19 years old

Here’s another prospect we hardly talk about.

Drafted in the fourth round (127th overall) in 2022, Guindon is having another solid OHL season this year.

After scoring 69 points (22 goals, 47 assists) in 68 games last season, Guindon is on track to record another season with over a point per game.

He has 27 points (15 goals and 12 assists) in 25 games.

Guindon scored twice last night in the Owen Sound Attack’s 7-4 win over the Erie Otters.

In short, things are going well for Guindon, and let’s hope he can continue to produce at this rate.
